San Diego Medal Play Championship
La Costa Resort (North Course)
Sunday, August 15
La Costa, CA—Spencer Thurn of Rancho Santa Fe found himself the only player under-par once the dust settled after 36-holes of medal play on the North Course at La Costa Resort. Thurn, who was winless coming into the final event of the season, played consistently well all day and in doing so found the winner’s circle in a small but talented field of 13 players. After opening up with a 2-under par 70 and in 2nd place headed into the afternoon, Thurn posted the 2nd best round in the final round, a 73, to secure the 4-stroke victory. Patrick Duncan Jr posted the low opening round, a very solid 3-under par 69, while John Kollus rebounded from an opening 75 to post the best round of the afternoon, an even-par 72. Both Duncan Jr and Kollus tied for 2nd place at 3-over par 147.
