Jimmy Harris Claims Medal Play Championship

Santee, CA–Jimmy Harris of San Diego and John Kollus of San Diego were tied after the morning round with each player shooting good scores of even-par 72 on the long 7,100 yard layout at Carlton Oaks Golf Club.  Paired together in the afternoon, Harris and Kollus continued to play strong with John Rudolph of La Jolla also being right in the mix after opening up with a 1-over par 73 in the morning.  Harris took control on the back nine, making birdies on 11, 13, 14, and 17 to close his round with a 2-under par 34 on the back nine to sit in the lead at even-par 144.  Kollus played brilliantly at the end, making birdie on 16 and then again on the difficult 18th to force a playoff and tie for low honors at even-par 72.  With the playoff beginning on the treacherous par-three 12th hole, both players made par to continue to #13.  Harris reached 13 in two strokes, while Kollus was forced to lay-up.  Knowing he needed to make birdie, Kollus hit a fantastic wedge to about two-feet to keep the playoff rolling.  After both players made par on the difficult 14th hole, it was Kollus this time would would almost reach the green on the par-five 15th while Harris layed up.  Harris hit a very good wedge to about 5-feet.  Kollus narrowly missed his birdie bid and failed to get up and down, while Harris hit his birdie putt right in the center for the victory.  Notably again John Rudolph of La Jolla finished in 3rd place at 3-over par 147, three shots out of the playoff.
